This is a wonderful book. It draws you into Francisco's life and really makes you think about how easy most of us had it as a child! A MUST READ!!

I bought this book after I'd read The Circuit because I needed to find out what happened to the family. I was intrigued by both books, found them fairly easy reading, and believe that they open up opportunities for discussion with teens. Thought provoking, well-written, very descriptive, somewhat depressing although I found the characters' spirit amazing and inspiring, and all together a very good read. Great for young adults as well as adults...highly recommended.

Francisco's family gets sent to Mexico, because they were in California illegally. When they get to come back legally the family gets a little split up, due to work and such. Roberto has to return to their barrack because of his janitor job. Papa can not work because of his back so the rest of the family goes to visit family and get Papa's back checked. Will Papa get better? Roberto gets replaced on his janitor job. Will Roberto get a job? What can the family do without the little money they must earn in long hard hours? That would be something to think about.
Well, I liked the book a lot, but it wasn't like regular books. This book was complicated but not. I don't know exactly how to phrase it, but you will get it if and when you read this touching story. If you have ever read the circuit then you should read the sequel. My favorite part was with the fools' gold. What is that about?, read and find out. Another good part was the food drive. Though remember, good doesn't always mean happy.

I recommend this novel Breaking Through because it is a good novel. It has excellent word choice. The characters in the novel are believable the setting are believable. The setting is good it is not great because the setting is a little foggy because the people are move a little fast. The novel has a good starting and ending. This novel is about a family who goes to the United States legally. And how a family is split up along the way. Only two brothers get to go to the United States first they go to live in a barracks. Then they get another house it is a small house then about a year later the rest of the filmily arrive. There are 4 main charters in the novel Breaking Trough. There are 4 main characters in the novel. The first charter is the mother. The mother soothes the father when he gets angry. The father is mean because he works all day long by then he is cranky and takes aspirin a lot more then he does usually. Then there is roboto. He is the oldest brother of the two brothers the final brother is panchito he is the younger brother. The settings in this book are in order a barracks, a small house and then a hospital. They live in a barracks then they live in a small house. In the small house roboto and panchito had separated rooms. Until the rest of the family moved in then roboto and panchito moves in and then they share the room together. The mom and dad shared roboto's room. I would recommend this book to a middle school or high school student. Because there are some very hard Spanish words and other just hard words. Or if you are a very good reader then this book is for you. If you do not like reading about a family's adventures this book is not for you. If you are a REALLY good reader in elementary school this book would be for you. This book is for u if you like to read about a family adventure

Breaking Through Book Review
Breaking Through is about a family that had some tough times living money wise. The family is poor and lives on a ranch. This book is also a fiction book by Francisco Jimenez. You can learn that Mexican people weren't treated fairly. That's why you should read this book. In this book the theme is poverty, and some happiness. One thing that happens is Frankie's dad cuts off his finger. His family works in fields, and makes little money. Frankie and two of his brothers have jobs cleaning places. In Breaking Through Frankie goes to college. This book has a lot of characters in it like Frankie, Mama, Papa, Roberto, Rorra, Torito and Trampita. Frankie wrote the book about his life growing up with his family. Frankie is the main character but his family was there too. When Frankie had troubles his family would help him. Their family had to work together a lot to manage money. The setting in this book is on a little ranch with a couple of houses. One of the houses belonged to Frankie's family. There were stray dogs every were you looked. At their house is were everything mostly good and bad happened. The name of the ranch was Bonetti Ranch, and that's where they lived. I will recommend this book to any one who likes fiction books, and learning about other peoples lives growing up. If you are somewhat poor, then you can probably connect to this book. Otherwise if you lived on a ranch you've kind of got the setting yourself. Something else is the theme, if you are sad or happy you kind of like the theme in Breaking Through. I really hope you enjoy this book, because I had a really good time reading it too.
